The New Angels have landed, Candice Swaneopel inspired look

First, let me say how excited I was to do this look....  I just LOVE Candice...I think she is breathtaking!
Her makeup is almost always my style... lots of golds, coppers, warm browns with pinky lips.  When I received the latest Victoria's Secret Promo in the mail I just knew I had to do a tutorial on it, it was right up my alley and I haven't done one in well forever.
I think it is such a sexy but not overdone look... My hubby just loved the look and wanted me to wear it the next day ... lol... SO you could call this guy approved makeup too (not that you need it ;)).

I hope that you enjoy the video that accompanies this blog post and let me know what you think.  Please see below for a full list of products:

                                                           FACE

  •  Revlon Color Stay Foundation, mixed 200 and 340 to tan myself up a bit and I applied it with a damp foundation.  I swear by this method as it gives the most uh-mazing finish to the skin.
  • Benefit Erase Paste in Light, applied in a triangle area under the eye to brighten and conceal.
  • MAC Cremeblend blush in so sweet, so easy to give a soft glow to the cheeks.
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in sand storm and Bronzer in sunlight mixed together to set the foundation (had to set with a darker powder because I went darker on the foundation.)
  • BE Hydrating Mineral Veil for under the eyes to set the concealer.. this powder has a nice brightner to it, so its perfect for under the eyes.
  • Rimmel bronzer again to warm up my skin (wouldn't be a victoria's secret look without it).
  • MAC Harmony blush as a contour color... MY perfect shade and if you are fair I would HIGHLY recommend it as it is a cool toned color and will actual match the shadowy colors in your natural contours.
  • MAC Silver Dusk highlighter for the high points of the face.

EYES

  • Apply eye primer
  • NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil in Gold to the lid and inner bridge of the nose
  • Use a orangey red/copper shade into crease all the way to the bridge of the nose.  I used MAC Heat Element a mineralized eyeshadow duo
  • Use a light colored gold shadow that is very shimmery like BareMineral's Firelight
  • Use a cream or skin toned eye pencil.  I used Stilla's pencil in Topaz
  • Black pencil to the upper lash line push/smudged in, I blended my Stilla pencil in Onyx with a angled brush
  • Flesh toned powder to the brow bone. I used my pressed powder for this.
  • Fill in your brows I used Maybelline's brow pencil in Light brown
  • Curl your lashes and apply mascara I used Maybeline's one by one waterproof.  Waterproof mascara will hold your curl in the lashes like hairspray.

LIPS

  • Use a light Pink lipstick or gloss on your lips.  I used Revlon's Colorstay Lipglaze in Lasting Shimmer, then to emphasize fullness I applied a shimmery pink shade to the middle of my lips.  I used BareMinerals Bikini eyeshadow.

Signature Kim Kardashian's Smokey Eyes

I love this look, it is perfect for any occasion and with a few tweaks it could be made more bold or more subdued.  The best part? It is relatively easy to do.  For Kim's signature look you will need a deep blue with a purple undertone... sparkle or matte your decision but I would opt for a more matte or satin finish as I used a shimmer on the lid and inner corner. Any black eye shadow and eye liner will also be a necessity for the eyes.  On the cheeks you will need a nice hot pink (we all know that Kimmy loves her blush... heck, with those cheekbones I don't blame her).  On the lips a pinky nude... she almost always goes for more nude than pink but for my coloring a more pink shade is needed.

So here is a list of the products I used.
EYES:

  • Start of with a shimmery light base L'oreal HIP Cream shadow in Secretive
  • Crease color (main color) Too Faced Smoking Jacket
  • Still Eye Pencil in Onyx
  • Outer > and lower lashline Too Faced Smokin' Hot
  • Bare Escentuals Heavenly Diamond in the inner < and on lid
  • Maybeline One by One Mascara
  • Maybeline brown pencil
FACE:

  • Revlon Colorstay foundation applied with a damp blending sponge
  • Benefit Erase Paste in Light
  • Mix MAC So Sweet, So Easy cremeblend blush and Crushed Bougainvillea cream colored base for cheeks
  • Rimmel Stay matte pressed powder in Sand Storm mixed with the bronzer color Sun Light
  • Bronzer is Rimmel Sun Light and I used it for contouring
  • Loose powder for under eye is Bare Minerals mineral veil
  • Highlight under the eye is Bare Minerals hydrating mineral veil applied just to the shadow areas under the eyes
LIPS:

  • Ulta lip liner in Flesh
  • Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Carnation
  • Bare Escentuals lipgloss in 7n Layer cake

Mourning the death of my Rubies...

Sigh...
Last night as I made my way up the stairs I hear Justin say "uh oh, looks like there is a chewed up shoe"
I was a little worried as I can't remember the last time our "Rhea" chewed a shoe.. it has been years..since an incident.  I thought that all I had out was just some yucky flip flops. I SOOOOOO wish that had been Rhea's victim.
Sadly, it was not some yucky end of the summer flip flops... instead she chose to kill my beloved Rubies.
I felt a kick to my stomach, tears in my eyes as I picked up what once was my FAVORITE pair of red shoes.

Let me say this... I have never cried over shoes, clothing, etc.

BUT these were more than just any pair of shoes, these were the shoes that lifted me up and not just in the literal sense.
If I was having a bad day... fat day, ugly day, nothing to wear day... those shoes would come to my rescue.  I received compliments every single time I wore them,  we can all attest to how much those  type of items in our closet mean to us.  They were comfy, they were the perfect height, they were the perfect shade of red.  PERFECT in every way!!

A lot of women say they have that one red lipstick that made them feel like a million bucks and suggest every woman should have one of those.  I agree, but if you have ever had or tried on a perfect red heel you know what I mean... I believe they have a higher magical power than any red lipstick.

These shoes in particular were so special to me.  I stalked these shoes for most of a summer 2 years ago.  The first time I spotted them was in a Dillards in an out of town mall.  I noticed them as soon as I walked through the door of the store... So pretty, so shinny, so.. well PERFECT.  The price tag was also very Pretty... as in a pretty penny.  To most, $80 probably isn't a whole lot to pay for shoes.  But for me I feel an extreme amount of guilt to pay full price for anything... let alone a pair of shoes.. for ME.

I ogled them for months, tried them on, admired them... all the while Justin telling me to get them since he could see my obvious love for them. ( I am picky about shoes...especially pumps.)
"No way" I would say," $80 bucks for shoes!"  Well he got them for me.... full price and all... I love him, he is an amazing husband! He knows I would never, ever get them for myself so he got them for me... and I was overjoyed!

I have worn those shoes quite a bit.  They dress up a dull outfit, they are the finishing touch and well I just feel like a bombshell when I wear them.

So imagine my heartbreak when I saw them laying on the floor all chewed up.. insert sad face here.  They are from a 2009 collection and we are not in a position to waste another buck on "foncy" shoes for me, let alone 80 buckaroos.

SIGH

These are the times I remind myself that I LOVE what I do and so what if I don't have the big bucks as an marketing exec. anymore... I am happy to stay home with my girls and work when I want to... RIGHT? RIGHT self?

SIGH

Right... but it sure does make my heart hurt a little for the most beloved part of my closet.
Rhea and I are not speaking at the moment, and there has not been any dog treats for her today and perhaps a few more days.... or years... okay maybe years but I am still mad at her!

However, I had part blame in all this... I should have had them up in my closet on the top shelf in their nice protected box.  Alas, they were put up... high enough I thought she wouldn't be able to reach them, I was wrong.  SO WRONG... Banging head.. ughhhhh!
Perhaps when we get a little bit more ahead I will find them on ebay or something... but til then...

RIP My beloved Rubies.. you were the best shoes I ever had.
2009-2011

A few things to leave you with:
-If you don't have a pair of red shoes... go get you some :)  I promise you will love how they make you feel.
-I found my holy grail liquid foundation... more on that in another post
-I am snuggled up with my babies on the couch while it continuously drizzles outside... LOVE a lazy Sunday.
-I am on a hat kick lately.  I love the look of a hat on me, but hate how self conscious I feel in them (why does everyone stare, does anyone else feel like people stare when you wear a hat?).  BUT I am being brave and have worn a hat the past two days.

Want to look like a celebrity? Don't we all..including them

Yes I am guilty, as probably 99.9% of women worldwide are, of ogling at celebrities and wondering how they do it.  How do they look ageless, no wrinkles?  Tanned, glowing no unsightly.. anything!  It can be disheartening to say the least.  The more I work with models and see industry images I can tell you the secret.....
Have a highly trained team of makeup artists, hairstylists, awesome photographers with an amazing lighting team ..oh and the most important thing of all.... a photoshop master.

Yeah, yeah you say...doesn't lesson the pain of the aging process.  No it doesn't but I can tell you that in REAL life a little reminder of this goes a long way.

I remember one of my first "real" jobs as a makeup artist the ease I thought that I would have with making up the models.  For after all they have flawless skin, no wrinkles, no age spots, no flaws.. right?  Ha, not hardly.  They all had some skin issues that I had to deal with and some even had an excess of plastic surgery that I never had the pleasure (sarcasm) of working with.  Too much botox can be a bad thing.  Just sayin'

I have always said that your most important beauty tool any woman can have is her smile.  This is truth people.. TRUTH.

Foundation can take care of most things, concealer can be a girls best friend, the right mascara and lip gloss can be a God send.  But if you don't realize how beautiful YOU are ... then forget it.  Real women can never live up to the nonsense of marketing and Hollywood.  Those are real women too, they just have the added benefit of knowing the secret (their team).

Think that I am crazy or blowing positivity smoke up your behinds ;) I promise you I am not... see the evidence below...

Jessica Alba

Beyonce

                                                                           Kim Kardashian

                                                                         Britney Spears

                                                                      Pamela Anderson
                                                                         Angelina Jolie
                                                                   Christina Aguilera
I show these to you .. not to hate, because I still think that these women are beautiful even without all the added help.  But lets just face it there is an added benefit to their team.  So lets all take a moment to embrace our realness and appreciate the fact that these women are just as real.... when they wake up with no makeup and no special lighting they are JUST LIKE US.

THINGS TO LEAVE WITH YOU..
-My mother in law laughs at me when I talk about my wrinkles... I think that though she loves me she would love to slap me upside the head when I mention them.
-My hair and skin have never recovered from having my two girls or turning 30.  Both of which I would never trade for wrinkle free skin or thick hair...okay maybe staying at 29 would have been okay with me :)
-A models career ends at 23.  By that time they have lost about 50% off their hair.
-The best advice for healthy skin, hair etc.  is really just taking care of yourself with diet, exercise and the most basic of beauty products.
-Oh yeah and don't forget that smile

Much love,
Trish
